The Silesian land is strewn with wooden churches and chapels, many of which are real gems of architecture. Roaming through the Silesian land often we do not even realize that the churches erected by the pious ancestors of the present residents have been standing there for ages. The religious structures erected across the ages make up examples of multi-layered sacred architecture, now the pride of Silesia.
All available human skills, talents and brilliant workmanship were always employed at the construction of religious structures. Thus created "Gems of Sacred Culture" are the testimony of deep religiousness of the Silesian folk and evidence of its close attachment to God.
It is now that these structures constitute a cultural testimony of the ancient times and make up today's cultural wealth of Silesia. Except for the worshiping function, at present, the churches play a very important role of illuminating and culture promoting. Therefore they attract crowds of people - pious worshipers, art lovers and architecture connoisseurs.
The important cultural role of the historic sacred buildings obligates to us to create an up-to-date cultural information system. Our information system "Gems of Sacred Culture" is a response to the requirements of the modern visitor who expects complex information in every field of the cultural life. With the use of state of the art technology, the system presents information about cultural events and resources of the most interesting sacred buildings in the region, in an interesting, fast and complex manner.
